Farm Building Types
The types of farm buildings that you find on farms will vary according to the size of the farm and the type(s) of farming that are undertaken on it. Most farms will, of course have a farmhouse, where the farmer lives. In addition, you could also find:
- Barns - barns are used to store stuff (such as hay and tools etc) and may also be used to house animals.
- Silos - if the farm grows grain or other products then they may well be stored in silos.
- Milking parlour - most dairy farms will have a milking house/parlour where the cows come in to be milked and where the milk is processed and/or made into other products.
- Tractor and machinery sheds - some farmers keep their vehicles/machinery under cover.
- Bale shed - a bale shed can be used to store bales of hay.
- Lambing shed - farms that breed sheep may have a special lambing shed.
- Workshops - some farmers also have a workshop where they can repair things.
- Stables/tack rooms - farms that have horses will generally have stabling for them and perhaps a tack room where their equipment is kept.
- Feed room - some farmers store animal feed in specific buildings.
- Piggeries - farms that breed pigs may also have specific buildings where they can live.
- Hen houses - farms that keep hens may well have hen houses/enclosures.
